Kite safari in the Red Sea.

If you love kitesurfing, warm water, and the idea of spending a week on a yacht with a bunch of kiters, then a kite safari in Egypt is probably a great choice for you. I’ve been running kite safaris with Sick Dog Surf (sickdogsurf.com) for years now, and one thing never changes: people arrive curious and with no idea, and they leave as experts wishing they had more time on board.

Why a Kite Safari?

Because it’s the perfect mix of freedom, wind, and simple but comfortable living. You wake up on a yacht already anchored in the middle of the Red Sea, have breakfast, and then ride all day in steady wind. The yacht is a spacious and ideal place to recharge your batteries between sessions, listen to music, eat great food, and generally just chill and enjoy.

Where We Go

We depart from the marina of Hurghada every Sunday (from March to November) and visit the best kite spots the Red Sea has to offer. Tawila, Geisum, and Ashrafi are the most popular kiteable islands, the kind of places you simply can’t reach from land. Sunrise and sunset downwinders, evenings on the yacht, and mornings and afternoons on the water. That’s it.

Who Comes on Board

We usually have around 24–26 kiters on board. The crowd is always a similar mix: mostly Europeans, occasionally North or South Americans and Australians, solo travelers, couples, and small groups of friends. Most kiters are between 25 and 45, with some exceptions of course. If you like kiting and you have a sense of humor, you will have a good time. English is the official language of the cruise, but most people are not native speakers, so your level will almost certainly be enough.

What You Get

  • A lot of kiting in great kiting conditions
  • A yacht as your floating hotel
  • Instructors and our Sick Dog team on board
  • All meals and transfers to the yacht and back included
  • Kitesurfing lessons included in the price of the cruise

The Cost

It starts at 1050€ per person for an all-inclusive kite safari. There are a few extras, such as alcoholic beverages (available for purchase on board), the marine park fee, and tips for the Egyptian crew (budget around 130€).

Who We Are

Sick Dog Surf has been running kite safaris since 2015. That year we ran our first (and only) kite safari. Now we run around 30 kite safaris per year, we’re a mixed European–Egyptian team, and all of us actually live here, spending most of the year on the water between Hurghada and the islands of the Red Sea.

We spend a lot of time at sea, so on board we try to keep the vibe relaxed, fun, and easygoing.

If you want to get a better idea of who we are, what we do, or simply put some faces to the names, you’ll find more info, photos, and stories on our website.
